Social Recognition

This task is designed to investigate social learning and memory.  Animals are tested for their ability to remember conspecifics over various time intervals.

An adult male is allowed to interact with a juvenile for a specific interval.  After a retention delay, the adult male is introduced to either a novel juvenile or the same juvenile.  The level of social interaction with novel and previously encountered conspecifics is compared.  This task tests memory for social information and cues that identify individual subjects.
